About BookExpo America
BookExpo America is the largest annual trade convention for the publishing industry in the U.S. With over 2000 exhibitors and 20,000 attendees, BookExpo America is packed with publishers, literary agents, distributors, media professionals, librarians, booksellers, and scouts from all over the world. This three-day event is an incredible opportunity for published and unpublished authors alike. The next BookExpo America convention is May 29-June 1, 2008 in Los Angeles, California.
To help published and unpublished authors utilize the numerous opportunities at BookExpo America, we offer services for presenting their projects to target contacts at this internationally recognized event. This gives authors the added credibility of having seasoned publishing professionals (who have been in the industry for years) pitch their works to publishers, agents, media representatives, librarians, and bookstore owners in person. All without the financial burden and time constraints of having to attend themselves.
BookExpo America: The Unpublished Author
For three days, among thousands of exhibitors and attendees, we will pitch your manuscript to book publishers and literary agents. Upon our return, we forward the contact information of interested parties for your follow-up. As an added service, we can also make arrangements with you to assist with the follow-up.
Please note that each manuscript project is reviewed for its suitability to this service. If approved, we will request appropriate materials from you for our efforts, such as promotional postcards, etc.
BookExpo America:
The Published Author
For the published author in need of media, library, or bookstore exposure, we will place your press kits in the press room and pitch your book to media contacts, librarians, and bookstore representatives, then forward the contact information of interested parties back to you for your follow-up. As an added service, we can also make arrangements with you to assist with the follow-up.
Please note that each manuscript project is reviewed for its suitability to this service. If approved, we will request appropriate materials from you for our efforts, such as promotional postcards, press materials, etc.
Limited Space and Deadlines
In order to network effectively, we can only represent a limited number of authors. Sufficient time should be allotted for us to review your manuscript materials, accept your project, and prepare for your representation (at least two months). Although early registration will help to secure a slot for your project, we will stop accepting applications by April 2008. Should we reach our limit before that deadline, we may refer you to other colleagues that provide similar services.
Our Guarantee
We do not accept every manuscript presented to us for representation at the BookExpo. We only accept the manuscripts we truly feel we can personally recommend for representation to a literary agent or publisher or recommend to media, library, or bookstore contacts.
However, we will evaluate each manuscript project thoroughly for its suitability of being represented at BookExpo America. And, if we do not return with the contact information of at least three parties (but expect MANY more) interested in your manuscript project or your writing, we will credit you 15 hours of editing, publishing consulting, publicity, or book proposal services. Don't expect to need it, but this is our assurance to those we represent.
This guarantee is only provided by those professionals representing authors on behalf of Book Proposal Depot or First and Last Word Author Services.
Cost:
Depending on your location in relation to the event, travel, lodging, and attendee expenses could cost $1000 or more. We can represent you for three days among thousands of exhibitors and attendees for only $1500 (for either the Published Author or the Unpublished Author option). We would be happy to work out a payment plan in advance, if needed. For more information, request a free consultation via our Contact Form.
Free Proposal Consultation or Sample Edit
After reading the articles (or even before, if you'd like), I'd be happy to provide you with a free initial consultation or provide a sample edit for a manuscript. To set up either, simply:
- Fill out the Contact Form to request a phone appointment (from Lori Lisi).
- Include the status of your manuscript and any submission materials.
- Include several possible time frames to set up a phone appointment.
- If you have a draft of your proposal and/or the first two chapters of your manuscript, please upload that into the form as well.
You will be contacted within 24 to 72 hours. This will allow me the time to review the materials and information you might send before we set up the phone appointment. Please be sure to include times you might be available to set up the appointment.
I'll look forward to speaking with you!
