Nonfiction and Fiction:
Book Critiques

This manuscript evaluation service is a beneficial option for authors who simply want:

  • overall feedback on the condition of their book (At any stage in the writing process.)

  • additional guidance through the revision process or suggestions for revision before a major edit

  • an evaluation by a professional during the final stages to make sure that the manuscript is polished and structurally sound

What Does A Book Critique Include?

The Book Critique service provides the author with not only an overall impression of the developmental issues, but also focuses on helping the author to recognize the revision and editing issues that arise in a manuscript on his or her own. Though each instance of a particular editing issue isn't noted, the author may receive notations of specific instances in a manuscript concerning:

  • typographical errors

  • spelling or punctuation mistakes

  • formatting issues

  • grammar

  • word choice

  • paragraph and sentence structure

  • chapter structure and development

  • the manuscript's content and structure

  • plot, characterization, and dialogue (if fiction)

General observations in all these areas are reported back to the author, particularly the overall development of the manuscript. However, for copy editing or proofreading errors, only one or two examples of each type of error may be noted so that the author will have a reference for recognizing other instances. All feedback is given via phone consultations. Cassette tape recordings of the consultations may be provided at an additional charge.

Cost:

The cost of this service averages between $0.015 and $0.025 per word. To request a free sample critique and an estimate, please fill out the Contact Form.

Free Proposal Consultation or Sample Edit

After reading the articles (or even before, if you'd like), I'd be happy to provide you with a free initial consultation or provide a sample edit for a manuscript. To set up either, simply:

  2. Include the status of your manuscript and any submission materials.

  3. Include several possible time frames to set up a phone appointment.

  4. If you have a draft of your proposal and/or the first two chapters of your manuscript, please upload that into the form as well.

You will be contacted within 24 to 72 hours. This will allow me the time to review the materials and information you might send before we set up the phone appointment. Please be sure to include times you might be available to set up the appointment.

I'll look forward to speaking with you!
